Nockberge – a gentle mountain range

The Nockberge are the highest mountain group in the Gurktal Alps, which in turn belong to the central Eastern Alps in Austria. They are sometimes also called Nockgebirge or Nocky Mountains. The Nockberge is the westernmost section of the Gurktal Alps. They include the three Austrian federal states of Carinthia, Styria and Salzburg.

Relaxed hiking experience in unique flora and fauna

The Nockberge are a popular travel destination. It is also worth making a detour as part of a study trip to get to know the wonderful landscape. A typical feature of the Nockberge are their dome-shaped mountain peaks that are overgrown with grass.

The highest mountain in the mountain range is the Eisenhut in Styria, which brings it to an altitude of 2241 meters above sea level. The 2240 meter high Rosennock and the 2236 meter high Großer Königstuhl are just as impressive. The Große Königstuhl forms the triangle of Carinthia, Styria and Salzburg.

Nockberge Biosphere Reserve

The biosphere park of the same name is one of the most important areas of the Nockberge. It is located in the entire Tamsweg (Lungau) district and in some neighboring areas within Carinthia. The Salzburg Lungau and the Carinthian Nockberge were designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2012.

Several nature and landscape protection areas are housed within the Nockberge Biosphere Park, such as the Nockberge National Park European Protection Area, the Rosanin Nature Reserve, the Riedingtal Nature Park and the Niedere Tauern Nature Reserve. A kilometer-long network of hiking trails leads through the area. Numerous lakes ensure bathing fun in summer.

The Nockalmstrasse

The Nockberge region scores with its magnificent diversity as well as its species-rich flora and fauna. A detour to the 34 kilometer long Nockalm Road between Innerkrems and Ebene Reichenau is particularly recommended. It is considered to be one of the most varied alpine roads in the southern part of Austria. The light larch forests, the gently green alpine pastures and the tranquil alpine huts along the Nockalmstrasse are particularly enchanting. The surrounding area is ideal for relaxing hikes.

The Nocky Flitzer

The Nocky Flitzer are particularly popular with young and old. It is a 1.6 kilometer long alpine roller coaster with wave tracks, roundabouts, curves and jumps. A ride on the Nocky Flitzern is an experience for the whole family.

Other highlights of the region are the Heidi Alm adventure park, the Feldkirchen city museum, the Sirnitz watermill, the Zirbenzapfi adventure trail, the Tiebel springs and the Nockberge high rope park.

Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein – Welcome to one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Austria

Bad Gastein is a municipality in Austria. It belongs to the federal state of Salzburg and has around 4,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Hohe Tauern National Park region and is very popular with nature lovers, winter sports enthusiasts and wellness enthusiasts. A snow park is also available. The two really big highlights are on the Stubnerkogel. These are the 140-meter-long suspension bridge and the Glocknerblick viewing platform.
