Ceylon, Minnesota is a small city located in the south-central part of the state. Ceylon, Minnesota was founded in 1876 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Odin. The land was purchased by the settlers and they established a small village on the banks of the Cottonwood River. Initially, the town was named Odin Station after its founders, but it was later changed to Ceylon in honor of a local minister who had been born in Ceylon, India.
In 1880, Ceylon had grown to become a village with a population of over 400 people. The town experienced rapid growth during this time due to its proximity to the railroad and agricultural land that could be used for farming. During this period, many businesses opened up in town including general stores, post offices and hotels.
